GOALS FOR TODAY: My goals are that by the end of today you will be confident that you can:
- Feel comfortable making a simple PowerPoint to present basic information on your own.
- Be confident about adding to your own learning of how to use this tool on your own.
- Be confident that you can add to your learning by being adventurous, curious, and always asking yourself, "I wonder what would happen if I clicked on THIS?"
DO NOW:We will do something hopefully familiar to you.
We are going to make 4 overhead transparencies using typical overhead transparencies that everyone loves to make!
Work in pairs to create the transparencies.
One of your transparencies should be notes, definitions, or other basic written information.
One of your transparencies should be a venn diagram, flow chart, short concept map, or tree chart.
One of your transparencies should be a table of information.
One of your transparencies should be a drawing (picture) with labels (maps can count for this!).
Choose one of the following two wikipedia articles as inspirational source material:
You can choose either make transparencies that would be used during a unit on the Water Cycle or a unit on Ancient Egypt.
STEP ONE:You don't need to do anything or memorize anything - it's just a broad overview of where we're going today. We are going to watch SOME of this video together. You don't need to click this link - I will show the video on the large screen. You can come back and watch it again later if you want by clicking here. We are also going to watch this video: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/powerpoint/HA103898361033.aspx
STEP TWO:We will stop the video at each part, and do the activities together.
We are going to watch this video together about getting started with a presentation in PowerPoint. You will open Powerpoint on your computer, and I will play the video.
STEP THREE:We will stop the video at each part, and do the activities together.
STEP FOUR:No video this time, so just watch what I do and we'll do it together.
I don't have a cool video for this one, but we are going to add one more slide and draw a mouse on it, just to practice drawing our own shapes. We will link shapes together, paying attention to making sure we understand what shapers are in front or behind, and that the shapes are grouped together so they move together. We will also change the color of the shapes. Your mouse will announce the end of your slide show, so we will have the mouse say something in a word bubble to end the show.
If you highlight something with your mouse, you can copy it by holding down the CTRL key while hitting the letter C once.
To duplicate what you copied, you paste it by holding down the CTRL key while hitting the V key once.
The combination CTRL A highlights and selects everything on your screen at once. ( "Select all" which is why you hold down CTRL and A for all.)
Not everyone has Office 2007, many people still have Office 2003. When you save a file, if you don't know that the person who is going to use the file has Office 2007, make sure you save it as an Office 2003 file so they can open it on their computer. If you are just using it for yourself on the same computer you just made it on, then you don't need to worry about it. :)

You will learn how to show the slide show.
You will print out slide handouts so students can take notes. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/powerpoint/HA100312841033.aspx?pid=CH100668231033#3
